Are you feeling blue? Load up the cheerful Candy theme and watch your doldrums melt away. This perky little package include three pastel-toned candy scenes. It changes your windows to a soothing lime color and sets the Afternoon sounds package, but doesn't affect any other interface elements.

If you use a main desktop PC at work or at home, and also use a laptop, you've likely got problems. Let's say, for example, that you use an e-mail client such as Outlook on your desktop PC, but when you're away from it, you want to check your email. There's nothing you can do; you're out of luck.

LogMeIn Free solves the problem neatly. You can take control any of your computers from any PC or Mac over the Internet, using one of the popular browsers on LogMeIn's supported list. So that means you'll be able to sit at a different computer, controlling your main computer almost as if you were sitting there.

Setup is surprisingly easy. Create an account on the LogMeIn.com Web site, then install the LogMeIn software on the computer you wish to control. Tell the software you want that PC to be able to be controlled over the Internet. Then when you want to take control of it, log into your LogMeIn.com account, and you'll be able to take control of the computer, using either a PC or a Mac. The computer you want to control will have to left on and running LogMeIn Free. For the best performance, install any software that it recommends on the machine on which you're using a browser, such as a Firefox plug-in or a special piece of Mac software. But you don't have to do that--it still works, even without the special software.

You'll now be able to run the remote computer in its own browser window. You may have to fiddle with resolution settings on the machine from which you're connecting when you're connected if the resolution on the machine you're controlling and the one doing the controlling don't match.

There's also a $70 per year version of LogMeIn, LogMeIn Pro2, which has extra features such as remote printing, file-sharing and more. But if you don't need those features, the free version will do the trick.

Note that when you install LogMeIn, it installs as a trial of the Pro version. However, you can easily turn that trial software into the free version. To do so, select Options --> About, click the "Switch Account or Subscriptions" button, and in the Available Subscriptions drop-down menu, select LogMeIn Free.

You can also do nothing, because at the end of the Pro trial period, you will be asked if you want to subscribe to the Pro version. If you don't subscribe, the software will automatically revert to the free version, removing the Pro features but remaining functional.

Note: This link takes you to the vendor's site, where you must register for a free account to download the software.

Freebie Adebis Photo Sorter Puts Pics in Chronological Order

If you're like most digital camera users, you probably bought your first camera several years ago. Now your My Pictures folder is jam-packed with pictures of everyone you've met and every place you've been since you first bought the camera. And if you're like most digital camera users, that folder is probably a pile of unsorted or loosely sorted pictures, so finding one in the pile is almost impossible. Adebis Photo Sorter (free) can help... to a point.

Adebis Photo Sorter lets you sort your photos and save them in separate folders.

The free download makes it easy to pick a folder that's filled with unsorted photos, choose a destination folder where you want to sort your pile, then set up some date-driven parameters. Adebis Photo Sorter can search and find every photo you took in 2009 and put them all in a folder called 2009. And it gets more granular than that, sorting by season, month and even day . It will search a broad range of file types as well, including jpg, tiff, raw, and others.

It only sorts by date, using EXIF data in the file, so if you already have a temporal sorting system it won't add much. But if you have a truly unsorted slush pile of photos, Adebis Photo Sorter is a quick and dirty way to sort it into some kind of order. And it would come in handy if you're looking for a particular shot that you remember taking during a particular time. It's a handy little app to have on hand.

Description of Microsoft Office 2007 (Free 60-Day Trial)

We found Microsoft Office 2007 to be a worthy upgrade with a great, new interface and a powerful new file format called Open XML. However, it will take you a while to get used to the new suite and not all applications are upgraded equally. Plus, users of the older versions of Office (and that's mostly everyone for now) will need a freely downloadable compatibility pack to work with your new 2007 files.

For more information, take a look at our in-depth complete Microsoft Office 2007 review

The download link below will take you to the Microsoft Office Online Web site so you can download one of the free 60-day trials. These aren't Microsoft's normal browser-based demos (called Test Drives) but fully functional software programs that you can try out for 60 days. After that period, the software will become crippled; you won't be able to create, save, or print files. You can try out four versions of the 2007 Office suite--Home and Student, Standard, Small Business, and Professional. You can also try out seven 2007 programs--such as Groove, OneNote, and Publisher--on their own. Internet activation is required.

Operating Systems: Windows 2000, Windows XP,                                                                                     Windows Vista, Windows 7
                                                                                   File Size: 2239 KB

                                                                                     Author: Alex Nolan

System Spec is a free utility that displays exhaustive information about your system, including details on memory usage, CPU speed, options and features your graphic card supports (or doesn't), and much more. It also includes access to a wide range of system functions: for example, you can bring up any Control Panel module, or eject a CD.

Unfortunately, despite claims of being Windows 7 "compatible," a number of functions do not work properly in that environment. Testing on a Windows Vista system confirmed that the functions do work in other environments. The developer has acknowledged the Windows 7 issues and is in the process of correcting them.

That aside, what does System Spec give you? A whole lot. Each of the many pages (CPU, memory, network, and more) is filled with detailed information on the appropriate topic. The CPU page, for example, tells you not only the speed, but the vendor, the revision code, and much more.

While this is mostly of minor interest to a casual user, this level of detail is valuable in a few key circumstances. Trying to deal with an obscure bug or oddity, especially with very new or very old software, often requires you to find specific system details. Many games, in particular, may require a patch or special setting to deal with certain hardware configurations. (For example, when I reviewed Cube 2: Sauerbraten, knowing driver details for my graphics card let me fix a crash bug.)

Also, since System Spec is designed to fit on and run from a USB key, anyone who does tech support can quickly get a "readout" of a machine, and IT departments can request that users generate and then e-mail such reports, which can help track hardware problems.(System Spec can export data to a CSV or to HTML, or just copy it to the clipboard so you can paste it into a form or document.

If you're using Windows 7, I'd recommend holding off on System Spec for now. If you're using an older version of Windows and have ever needed to know this sort of information, System Spec is a good bet. It's free and simple to use.

                                                                   Real Desktop Light
Real Desktop Light doesn't merely dress up your desktop--it thoroughly transforms your desktop into a three-dimensional one. More than that, though, the objects on your desktop become virtual objects that you can rotate, move, and even throw against one another. They react just as if they were real-world objects; they have weight and physical dimensions, and behave accordingly. For example, when you throw one object against another, the items crash, clink, and slide.

You'll find a lot of playfulness in Real Desktop Light (the Recycle Bin, for instance, becomes a 3D trash can). But you'll like the app not just for its whimsy but also for its usefulness. It makes finding what you want on your PC much easier.

youtube downloader

You just want to download videos from YouTube. Well, and to convert the videos to watch on your iPod, cell phone, or to another video type. That means you want freebie YouTube Downloader. It runs as a small applet, and it's exceedingly simple to use. Copy the URL of the YouTube video into it (you'll find the URL on the upper right-hand side of the video page in YouTube), then tell the program to do its work. You'll be able to choose your destination folder and name of the downloaded video.

Conversion is similarly easy. Choose the downloaded file you want to convert, then choose the download format and click OK, and the work is done. You can convert to many different formats, including for the iPod, iPhone, cell phones, PlayStation Portable, as well as common PC formats including MPEG and Windows Media (.wmv). Given that all this is free, what's not to like?

Note: When you install this software, by default it will install the Yahoo Toolbar and make Yahoo your default search engine. If you don't want that to happen, make sure to uncheck the boxes before installation.
